Ever since we registered for gifts over the holidays, I've been obsessively reviewing them online, fine-tuning our selections and stressing out over every tiny detail. So many questions have filled my head: Should we have registered for more place settings? Is the color scheme we've chosen for our kitchen too busy? Is it okay to register for items that are only available online? Should we have gone with different cookware? And the ever-present: Do we look greedy?
Gift registries are definitely the norm where I live, and I'm sure I'm just being my usual over-analytical self, but I still can't help but worry. A lot of these gifts are going to be in our home for a long, long time, and so I just want to be one hundred percent confident we've chosen the right items. The worst part is that, with B gone, I've just been doing this all on my own, without consulting him. Inevitably, he discovers the changes and asks me about them.
"What happened to the knife set we picked out?"
"Oh, that had bad reviews online so I switched it."
"Didn't we decide we only needed four of those Beatles pint glasses?"
"Um, well...yes. But I really like them, and isn't it better to have the full set?"
"Do we really need six floor lamps???"
"I haven't decided which ones I like best."
"But I thought we already decided in the store."
At which point, I become my psychotic alter-ego. Eyes bulging and hands shaking I scream: "I just want to make sure it's PERFECT!!!!"
Seriously, you guys, it's amazing he hasn't left me yet.
