Anne Shirley is My Bosom Friend

A lot of people have celebrity inspirations.  Maybe they're the celebrities they look like, maybe it's celebrities whose style they want to emulate, or maybe it's just someone they look up to as an icon.  Often when a bride gets married, she looks to those celebrities she admires to help her decide on the style she wants for her big day. Unfortunately, I don't really have one of those.

I've been told I look like a cross between Kate Winslet and Cate Blanchett, but I don't really see it...

I do, however have literary inspirations.

If you asked me who I wanted to look like on my wedding day, my mind would immediately jump to two of my favorite literary heroines of all time.

Oh, Lizzie.  Where do I begin?  Whenever people ask what my favorite book is, I always cop out and say that I could never pick just one, but deep down I know that Pride and Prejudice tops the list.  Elizabeth Bennett is one of the greatest characters ever written, at least in my (not so) humble opinion.  She is a free spirit, stubborn, refuses to settle, and loves her family very much, despite their eccentricities.  If our wedding can evoke the romantic spirit of an Austen novel, then I'll be a very happy girl.

Of course I'm not always as poised and polished as Miss Bennett tends to be, which brings me to my next kindred spirit:

The girl is feisty, melodramatic, and a hopeless romantic.  She is constantly getting into trouble, drives Marilla up the wall, and is truly a girl after my own heart.  Plus, I can't help but identify with a girl whose red hair caused her so much turmoil when she was younger.  ("DON'T CALL ME CARROTS!!")

I also heard recently that Anne of Green Gables was a huge inspiration for Stephanie Meyer in her writing of the Twilight books, and that when Bella and Edward get married, her writing references the books quite frequently.  As much as that annoys me (sorry Twi-hards, you're not getting any love from me!), I won't hold it against my girl Anne.

So how am I pulling these characters into my overall wedding look?  With my accessories, of course!

Soft and romantic, but with a bit of an attitude, just like Lizzie and Anne.  Plus, they compliment my dress beautifully!  I'll wear the veil for the ceremony and portraits, and the flower headband will be for the reception.  Now if only I could figure out how to wear my hair...but that's a post for another day.

Who are your wedding day inspirations?
